In order to help international students better unlock the university library resources and improve the quality of international student talent cultivation, on the afternoon of December 13th, the university library and the School of Economics(SOE) organized a training seminar on EBSCO databases for international students which was held successfully in Classroom 105, SOE. The event was attended by Ms. Huang Gengxin, training teacher of the university library, Ms. Gao Yeh, customer manager in charge of EBSCO in Central China, Ms. Zong Qin, college library advisor, Ms. Ma Wenli(Ms. Mandy), counselor for international students, and all the international students. The seminar was presided over by Ms. Mandy.
At the beginning of the seminar, Ms. Mandy introduced the teachers and students who attended the seminar, and she expressed a warm welcome and high respect to the teachers of the library on behalf of all the international students of SOE. Ms. Huang briefly introduced the usage methods and characteristics of EBSCO international data, encouraging students to make more use of the university’s electronic and paper library resources to support their scientific research and academic pursuits.
Ms. Gao provided a detailed introduction of the general situation, data characteristics, application scenarios, and usage methods of EBSCO international databases. She summarized the commonly used international databases in the field of economics at present. Ms. Gao then demonstrated how to search for database resources and literature resources related to one's own research, and shared some practical tips in database search. She also introduced the sites supported by the university library and free online learning resources, which broadened the channels for international students to access the university's electronic data resources.
During the database practice and Q&A session, the three teachers provided full guidance and interacted with the international students, resulting in a favorable learning atmosphere. The students expressed that they had benefited a lot and hope that the college would organize more similar academic science activities in the future.
This seminar deepened the understanding of international students about the university's e-book resources and professional subject databases, also reflected the college's emphasis on the cultivation of international students. SOE emphasis on promoting the convergence of teaching, management, and services for Chinese and foreign students, strengthens the cooperation with the university library, explores the linkage education mechanism, and striving to promote the improvement of quality and efficiency of the students’ cultivation studying abroad in China.
