In order to create a good academic atmosphere and a rich innovative atmosphere, standardize the unified format of dissertation writing, and help international students to apply scientific research methods and master the requirements of dissertation writing, on the afternoon of December 20th, training seminar based on how to write research/thesis proposal organized by School of Economics(SOE) was successfully carried out in the 105 classroom, SOE. The seminar was attended by Ma Wenli (Mandy), a student counselor, and all international students. The seminar is hosted by Hou Yifan (Md. Istiak Hossain), a PhD student of SOE.

Md. Istiak introduced the contents of each constituent part in the logical order of the paper writing, mainly including "Title", "Introduction", "Literature Review", "Research Methods", "Conclusion", "References", etc. During the lecture, he also provided a detailed introduction to the basic precautions for writing thesis papers, intuitively explaining the construction of the paper framework, the writing process of academic papers, and key points. In terms of specific paper writing, Md. Istiak shared with his classmates some techniques and methods for academic paper writing, clarified basic academic norms, and helped international students write papers in a standardized manner.

At the beginning of the seminar, Md. Istiak first raised the question of "how to start writing", answered the points to pay attention to when choosing a topic, and then distinguished the concepts of "thesis proposal" and "thesis defense", emphasizing the differences between the two, helping students to have a clearer understanding of the requirements for thesis writing. In the explanation of the formal paper writing, Md. Istiak explained the content that the title should include, remind all to explain the theme of the research plan clearly, in order to write a concise and rich topic. Next, he introduced the "Introduction" section, which includes six points: background, problem statement, objective, research gap, scope and arrangement, telling his fellow classmates to pay attention to the writing requirements of the paper introduction. Subsequently, the "literature review" was divided into two categories for explanation: "empiricism" and "theoretical". At the same time, it was mentioned that in the "research methods", different methods needed to distinguish between "quantitative research" and "qualitative research" were used as examples. The final "Conclusion" mainly focuses on the required content, starting from the two aspects that should be written. He stated the conclusion should state clear sections such as "restating the argument", "summarizing the main content of the paper", "discussing applications", "reflecting on limitations", and "final summary".

During the seminar, Md. Istiak had in-depth communication and interaction with his classmates and enthusiastically answered their questions. The seminar atmosphere was lively, and after the end, many students continued to communicate and discuss.

This seminar has improved the understanding of practical writing among international students present, enhanced their awareness of academic norms, and also mastered more paper writing skills, which is conducive to further cultivating their good literature reading and writing habits. SOE adheres to promoting the improvement of literature management, reading, thinking, and writing abilities of international students, and improving the quality of international students’ cultivation.
